Polish-German Summer School for young journalists of the Ukrainian regional and local media

From 21st till 30th September 2017 twenty young journalists of the Ukrainian regional and local media will participate in the second edition of the Polish-German Summer School. The School will take place at the University of Rzeszow and at the Ukrainian Catholic University of Lviv. Similarly as last year, the main objective of this project will be to make the participants acquainted with working methods and the functioning of regional and local media in Poland and Germany. The program will include lectures and workshops prepared by Polish and German scientists. There will be also study visits at some editorial offices. On this occasion, professional competence of the participants will be improved, they could also establish some international contacts. A secondary objective will be to support the development of Ukrainian democratic media system and to extend the cooperation between Polish, German and Ukrainian universities. The Summer School came to effect thanks to financial support of the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany via the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation, the Podkarpackie Province and the University of Rzeszow. The School will be organized by the Institute of Political Science of the University of Rzeszow and the School of Journalism of the Ukrainian Catholic University of Lviv. Visits at the editorial offices of the daily newspaper Nowiny, Rzeszow Radio and Rzeszow Television will enable the participants to learn the working conditions of Polish journalists.   » more

Lecturer of our Department won a prize of Polish Journalist Union

An Israeli journalist Nissan Tzur is a correspondent of The Jerusalem Post and Maariv. He also gives lectures in English on International Communication in the Department of Political Science of Rzeszów University. On January 30th in Warsaw authors of the best journalist publications of 2013 were awarded by the Polish Journalist Union. Winners in the category of investigative journalism were Nissan Tzur and Wojciech Surmacz for the article Kaddish for a million bucks, which was published in the Forbes magazine. The other winners in this category were Anita Gargas and Edyta Krześniak. In the prizewinning article Nissan Tzur and Wojciech Surmacz wrote about frauds committed while returning  property to Jewish communities in Poland. » more

The Department of Political Science on the Faculty of Sociology and History have functioned since 1 July 2001. The first head of the Section was prof. dr hab. Henryk Cimek. Since 1 September 2012 the Department have been lead by Associate Professor Agnieszka Pawłowska, Ph.D. By resolution number 27/2006 PKA from 5-th January 2006 which is connected with the issue of assessing the education qualities on level I, the Department of Political Science was assessed positively.      » more

Section of Public Administration and Public Policy

Research is focused on public administration, especially managing its resources and services. Local government in Poland constitutes the parallel field of research; in this respect issues of local and regional policy are investigated, as well as governance processes in policy implementation. Comparative analysis of institutions of local governement and direct democracy in EU and USA complete the research profile of the Section.

Section of Social Communication

Processes of communication and contemporary media are investigated. Media are understood both as vehicles of signes as well as institutions exerting influence on receivers by creating and sending messages. Of all types of communication we focus on journalism, public relations and advertisement. Special attention is given to political functions of the local and regional media in Poland and abroad.

Section of International Political and Economic Relations

The Section carries out the research within three fundamental areas: foreign policy, national and ethnic minorities in East-Central Europe as well as social and economic policy. Studies are focused on institutional aspects of international relations, especially those in Central and Eastern Europe (with the particular stress on the states – members of the Visegrad Group). Issues related to the national minorities in selected countries of East-Central and Eastern Europe (especially Slovakia and Poland) are investigated. The studies are also related to the current problems of economic and social policies in Poland and the EU.

The basic fields of research are: contemporary political systems, political theory, the theory of government and law, the Polish party system, political theory, Polish political thought, the history of political institutions, methodology of the research in political science and links between new information technologies and politics.

The research and teaching activities conducted by the employees concern the functioning of power in Poland and the contemporary states. They take into account the dynamics of processes and the multiplicity of determinants of decision-making in politics. We verify the theoretical foundations of modern political systems by confronting them with the realities of the functioning of the state and its institutions.

Department of Security Policy

Research is focused internal and international safety within three fundamental areas: “International conflict and disputes”, “Security policy on local, regional and international level”, “Human rights and protection”. First area include legal and political aspects of international conflicts and analysis of specifics cases in regional and global dimension. “Security policy in local, regional and international level” include review of determination affecting on destabilization security system on different level. The third area of researches include violation freedom and human rights in nowadays world as well as responsibility for those violation; right protection of some persons group (with special preferences of consumer safety and international law of an armed conflict); human rights in international and polish law system.

Polityka i Społeczeństwo

Polityka i Społeczeństwo [Studies in Politics and Society] is a political science journal open to interdisciplinary research. In total, between 2004 and 2012, ten volumes of the journal were edited in which papers were published both in Polish and English (in parallel versions). Starting from 2013, the journal has been transformed into a quarterly and papers are accepted for publishing in either Polish or English. The journal has been established by academic staff of the Department of Political Science at the University of Rzeszów. It is published by Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego [The University of Rzeszów’s Publishing House].
